 but by the time we got there, all they had was gone

but than I remembered I had seen a sign, for a church sale

 so we stopped and piled out, hoping for the best, and low and behold....

it was a splurge, hat boxes and dishes, aluminum sugar canasters

  vintage sweaters and dresses, books and ceramic wall ballerinas,

feathered hair bands and vintage kitchen contraptions galore....

the biggest score of all, a red bag complete with a shiny baton....

I am sure you are already acquainted with Charles. He is looking quite fine in this image reproduction on linen. I found him and the late Diana on a commerative dishtowel from their nuptials in the 80's. I have a very particular project in mind for Diana, but the Prince had me stumped! What to do with him?
Than it dawned on me a while back. My ratty tote bag for work needed a bit of sprucing up and behold! Now he cavorts around the hospital with me on my work days. Beguiling his admirerers in the lunch room winking in the nurses station.
Although I am no huge fan of the Royal Family, I am enjoying toting about my Prince Charles.

I've been meaning to blog this for quite some time. I finished my first quilt. One for our small friend Caesg....to keep her warm up there in Maine.

This little bit is based on Caesg's nickname....the little fishy mermaid love.

This is the front of the quilt. I used the pattern for the lap quilt loosely from Amy Karol's Bend the Rules sewing book. The rest I just kinda winged it....as I am want to do when it comes to sewing in general.

This is the quilt back with I thought turned out kinda looking likes waves after the washing I did to pucker up those wonky lines.
I like the effect.

Also whipped up this mermaid for Caesg. Being she is a mermaid, we felt she needed to be represented in doll form.
As a whole I am happy with how the quilt turned out....and I learned alot in the process...

Through fields we flew, picked and drug up

Orchard gruff, muddy and bare

In the evenings the winds howl through the diseased horse chestnut trees of the road-deeply blighted moans

and somewhere in the window across the overgrown Village Square, lights will twinkle & fade, bouncing

off the fallen dormitories-trees growing up from between the collapsed floor boards and rooftops

from beneath my early footfalls

Sometimes the sheep will gather in the empty moat-

collecting thistles on their thick wool we would hear the sloshing of an ancient chord, a harmony of water that ran up hill sunk carp in its depths-ate trees in the midst with one giant gulp.

In the forests the sheep would wander and cut through the mossy crumbled walls of the old fortress we'd smell the decay and watch the moss bury the trees

we'd choke on old bottles, trip on china plates

that emerged from the ground in our pathssss

In summer, light would filter in through the treetops and criss-cross lines of reason, it pushed the grass to

grow past our knees and knettles to claim our shins,

we would limp in and out trying to tie and rebuckle

our shoes.

I'm tyring to get back each memory of creening through

Radostovice into the bull pen, into the fields with the fawns…

A Craft Faire Report

Had a great time at the Craft Fair, unfortunately, not big sellers, though...Thanks to the friends & family members that came out in force and showed some purchasing power! Also my niece Tiff won 2 prizes in the church's raffle.

We are talking of trying to do another craft fair next month in a locale more suited....we shall see!

its friday, dontcha know

So here we are at the end of the week....& oh what a week its been.  I had my first doula client call me on the phone, had my one every four months sale on etsy & sold some bacon & eggs at Bohema.  Not bad.  Hopefully I can keep the momentum going.
Projects that I've attend too this week...
finishing a quilt for a very dear mer-baby...
a dotted with polkas happy birthday banner...
and some very neglected embroidered napkins....
Those poor napkins need some attention.  Perhaps today.

The above photo is from the zoo last week.  They have the most amazing bronze sculptures there.  I noticed quite a few dating back into the 1800's.  Truly lovely.

Made an apple pie yesterday.  It was my big accomplishment.  Also this mornings breakfast.  Yum.

3 lamps & the musical frontier

Visited the Smith House last week. These photos are from their doll house. I love to see how the kids set up the rooms. I also cannot resist playing a bit there myself.

New loves this week....because I needed to find a new music love this week. WTF universe???? Its been a strange week.

My other sorta new to me favorite, Brown Bird. I've listen to their song David and Bathsheba many, many times this past week. I am enjoying his voice entirely. There is also a cello player in the band. I couldn't ask for more. Looking forward to their new album out this month.

This video has me a bit enthralled. Their harmonizing is divine and there is a bit of a change up / surprise about 3 quarters of the way in...sirens, indeed.

haircut retrospective

When Milo was just over 2 years old, his Dad gave his bangs a "trim." I remember the day pointedly. Watching those two walk off into the bathroom, sure I said to Chris, cut his hair. I almost went in, but stayed put. He came out with this cut. Chris said he "sneezed" Now which one sneezed I don't know.

Nate also recently had a similar haircut. Which prompted me to post this. I was looking at how similar they look and also how funny it is that this happened right around the same time for them. (I was not there for Nate's cut and don't really 'know' what happened. I only know he was 'hot')

I feel relatively guiltless in both these cutting incidents (I wasn't even in the state for Nate's cut). They both look so darn cute. But where the blame really lies is in my choice to leave them like this. I still can't bare to cut their hair.

A puppet museum, oh my!

This summer Juno and I went photo adventuring around the city. Taking photos of murals and whatever interesting view we stumbled upon. While in West Philly we discovered the legendary Spiral Q Puppet Theater Museum. They are known in these parts for their amazing giant puppets and parades. What a feast for the eyes....
